Immediately after we delivered nearly 250,000 petitions at our
Capitol Hill press conference, I asked Congressman Walter Jones
a simple question...

          "What will it take to get this bill moving to reinstate
          the double-layer border fence?"

Without hesitation, Congressman Jones said, "Steve, we just have
to shut down the phones up here for a few days."

I turned to Ron De Jong, and then back to Rep. Jones. That's
when I told him, "We will do it."

 I gave Rep. Jones my word. Now I need your help.

+ + 48-Hour Phone And Fax Blitz

A few days ago I told you about our 48-Hour Phone And Fax Blitz we
have scheduled for early July.

Already, Grassfire team members have said they will make and
send over 11,000 phone calls and faxes. This is a great start,
but we need tens of thousands more to make it a real Blitz.

          All I am asking you to do
          right now is complete a simple form that indicates you will
          call your congressman on July 9 or 10.

          There is no cost -- we just need to know how many team

Only two weeks ago, I stood at a podium on Capitol Hill
and told everyone gathered that many in Congress and the
Bush Administration were "playing games with border security--
talking a good game of building the fence, while at the same
time doing everything in their power to make sure that it is
never built."

Now our backs are against the wall, Darell. At the end of
this year all obligations for DHS to build the fence ends,
leaving our borders open for invasion.

Worse yet, our next President, be it Obama or McCain are both
horribly lax on border security.

This is it. If we are ever to see a real border fence securing our
borders,
grassroots Americans must respond in force, right now!

members of Congress who think they can put up substandard fencing and
then report with all smiles that they are following the will of the
people.

It's simply not true, and I want them to hear about
it from tens of thousands of grassroots Americans who know better.

The double-layered fence that was passed into law is NOT being built,
and I want some accountability before it's too late!

Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ), recently toured the U.S-Mexico border
near Yuma, AZ, and reported that border crossings were down
a projected total of 12,000 for the year.

Back in 2005, President Bush visited Yuma--where many were
calling it the "most dangerous place to live in America."
The President said he would fix the problem. Less than
three years later, he has with...

    a triple-and double-layered fence, 20 feet high and
    reinforced by cement-filled piping. Next to this barrier is
    another tall fence of steel mesh, and just ten yards beyond,
    a shorter cyclone fence adorned by razor-wire.

This is precisely the kind of fencing that we all envisioned
when the Secure Fence Act was enacted in 2006. It is precisely
the kind of barrier that has Jon Kyl praising for its effectiveness.

But this isn't the kind of fencing that is being built by the
Department of Homeland Security. Darell, only a fraction
of the new fencing is as impressive as the Yuma fencing.

    Most is single-layer, vehicle and pedestrian barrier
    that range from metal mesh and chain link to picket.

You read that right... PICKET FENCING... the kind you probably
see decorating your neighbor’s lawn. The kind that can't
even stop a dog!

This is what DHS considers securing our border?


++ Grassfire headed to Capitol Hill with your petitions!

 I want the President to effectively secure our borders
the way he succeeded in securing Yuma from drug smugglers,
illegals, and violent gangs.

He owes that to the citizens of our nation and when Grassfire
is center-stage, presenting your petitions during a national

Breaking news has confirmed what Grassfire has been saying all
along--the VIRTUAL BORDER FENCE HAS FAILED!

According to reports, Project 28 (twenty-eight miles of virtual
border fence in Arizona), which the President has boasted is
"the most technologically advanced border security initiative
in American history" has failed.

New estimates suggest the project will not be completed until
the end of the next president’s first term--in 2011!

This is just one more slap across the face of
American citizens who are eager to see our borders secured!

    The lack of commitment and concern; the colossal
    waste of taxpayer funds is nothing short of
    reprehensible--which is why Grassfire launched
    our national petition demanding Congress make good
    on their promise to build a double-layered fence.


++ Future of the Fence in Peril?

Grassfire has also learned that Senators Hillary Clinton and
Barack Obama have called the Border Fence "absurd" and stated
that the Bush Administration walked "off of the deep end" when
they started securing the Border.

Ignorant of the situation, Clinton falsely accused the Department
of Homeland Security (DHS) of not listening to the locals and
cutting off part of the University of Texas--Brownsville Campus.

Taking these accusations to task, Grassfire spoke with DHS
officials and uncovered the truth concerning the University
of Texas-Brownsville situation.

++ The Truth Revealed...

In the plan adopted by the DHS, the fence runs along
the Rio Grande River. At no point does it separate any buildings
from campus. However, the plan does enclose a golf course--similarly
to what one would find at private country clubs.

Truth be told, the DHS is working with locals and accommodating
their needs--something both Presidential hopefuls failed to acknowledge.

Why? Because both have an "open-border" agenda.

Both of these important stories underscore the importance of
grassroots citizens remaining vigilant in efforts to secure
the border. Grassfire is doing our part, and we are relying
on you to do yours...
