+ + + MEDIA RESEARCH CENTER + + MRC NEWS REPORT FOR JULY 2, 2008 + + From the Desk of: Douglas C. Mills, Executive Vice President 7/2/2008 xxxxx, The recent Supreme Court ruling striking down a ban on handgun ownership in Washington, D.C., touched off a maelstrom of negative media reports about how the ruling would lead to more gun violence. Really? The 32-year ban on handguns in our Nation’s Capital was one of the strictest, yet the District has been widely labeled "the murder capital of the country". Why didn't the media analyze that? For the full Culture and Media Institute report: http://www.mrcaction.org/r.asp?U=8733&RID=16005272Just after the ruling, The N.Y. Times used a misleading statistic to bolster their argument. "Thirty-thousand Americans are killed by guns every year -- on the job, walking to school, at the shopping mall. The Supreme Court on Thursday all but ensured that even more Americans will die senselessly with its wrongheaded and dangerous ruling striking down key parts of the District of Columbia's gun-control law." The Times failed to mention that nearly half of the 30,000 deaths are suicides. The paper also didn’t look at how many of those homicides were the result of self-defense. Instead, the Times, like its liberal network counterparts, lamented that the "far-right" court got it wrong, setting the stage for more violence and death. Douglas C. Mills Executive Vice President Media Research Center XXXXXX, Thank you! On Friday, over 100,000 of your petitions were delivered to each of the following members of Congress: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY) Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) Rep. Jason Altmire (D-PA) Rep. Robert Wittman (R-VA) Rep. Ralph Regula (R-OH) Rep. Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV) Copies were also delivered to Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) who has been a champion in the fight to end government censorship over the radio airwaves once and for all. Your petitions were all the more timely and relevant, coming on the heels of Speaker Pelosi’s remarks stating her intentions were to keep the Broadcast Freedom Act in the dark, while working to reinstate the "Fairness Doctrine." More than 100,000 petitions were sent declaring "Radio Independence Day," and drawing a clear line in the sand against government censorship and for the preservation of our Free Speech Rights! XXXXXX, just hours before the deliveries, we were nearly 20,000 petitions shy of our goal. Your passion and commitment rallied 20,000 citizens in just hours! This incredible outpouring of support demonstrates the importance of this battle to protect our First Amendment Rights, and we're so grateful that you are standing strong in the charge against those who are trying to silence the conservative voice. The petition deliveries on Friday were just the beginning. In the days and weeks ahead, we’ll be counting on the continued support of our incredible MRC Action Team until the "Fairness Doctrine" is thrown out on the ash heap! Thank you again for making this delivery so extraordinary! Douglas C. Mills Executive Vice President Media Research Center P.S. Let's keep the pressure on "high" by continuing to rally citizens who want their Free Speech Rights defended and protected from government intrusion! HT to Ninjamommy for this one. For those of us who are in the know about the true evil of the cult that calls itself IslaM, THIS comes as no suprise. If you weren't aware of what's going on there, you're in for a shock. For muslims, this is just another ogre in the corner they refuse to acknowledge. You cannot reform Islam. There is nothing of God in it. By all it's tennants, it is the advisary of God and a tool of Satan. THAR SHE BLOWS ! + + + MEDIA RESEARCH CENTER + + MRC NEWS REPORT FOR JUNE 18, 2008 + + From the Desk of: Douglas C. Mills, Executive Vice President
6/18/2008
Answering the deafening outcry for energy relief from U.S. citizens, President Bush will urge Congress today to release their stranglehold on America’s natural resources, and allow for offshore oil and gas drilling. White House press secretary Dana Perino says, "The President believes Congress shouldn't waste any more time."
Despite the President’s move, CNSNews.com reports that many in Congress oppose lifting the ban (in place since 1981), saying gas exploration today wouldn’t affect prices for at least five years.

Bush's appeal to Congress is welcome relief for citizens who are sagging under soaring energy costs. CNSNews.com took to the streets and found motorists want action. "I think we s hould go get it," said one man, adding that he was opposed to drilling in ANWR, the Artic National Wildlife Refuge. "But offshore," he said, "I don't think they’ve had a leak in years."

While drivers are happy with Bush’s appeal to Congress, the mainstream media are touting an entirely different solution. A June 13, USA Today cover story gave the thumbs down to increased drilling (after conferring with the liberal group Union of Concerned Scientists), and instead urged Americans to embrace unproven fuel and energy alternatives--notably cellulosic ethanol--that a growing number of scientists believe may never be viable, and purchasing expensive hybrid cars.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR A teacher, a coach, and a student have religious freedoms stripped away April 21, 2008 The rights of Christians are under attack again! Consider what has happened just in the last week: - In New Jersey, East Brunswick High School officials told football coach Marcus Borden he cannot kneel and bow his head while members of his team have a student-led pre-game prayer. (source)
- In Wisconsin’s Tomah Area School District, a teacher refused to give a student identified only as A.T. a grade on an art project because his work included "John 3:16" as well as "A sign of love." However, Buddha, Hindu and sorcerers are considered “approved” forms of art by the school. (source)
- In Mt. Vernon, Ohio, school leaders told teacher John Freshwater he must put his Bible out of sight when students are in his room. Mr. Freshwater has refused to do so. He has had a Bible on his desk for the past 18 years. (source)
Our religious freedoms are slowly being taken away, mainly because Christians have not taken a stand! People of faith are being forced to remain silent while other religions are accepted in the name of “tolerance.”
| Take Action! | | Join AFA in expressing appreciation to the two teachers and student mentioned above for their bold stand. Despite overwhelming pressure, Marcus, A.T. and John are standing firm in defending our rights. Sign our “Petition of Appreciation!” Help us gather one million signatures supporting these three individuals for standing strong for our religious freedoms. AFA will present a Plaque of Appreciation to each of them, which will include your name and state (no address). |
Homosexual Day of Silence - Is Your Child's School on the list? Because of the action of concerned parents, hundreds of schools have removed their school as a listed participant in the pro-homosexual "Day of Silence." You can join the fight for your children too!
On, Friday, April 25, several thousand schools across the nation will be observing "Day of Silence (DOS)." DOS is a nationwide push to promote the homosexual lifestyle in public schools.
When AFA alerted parents of this public school classroom disruption by homosexual student activists, many took action immediately! If you haven't gotten involved, it's critical that you do so today!
A simple phone call or letter to school administrators, telling them your child will not attend school the day it observes DOS, may be enough to cause some participating schools to change their plans. Sample letter here.
Please listen to a 60-second radio ad warning parents about Day of Silence, then forward this email to your local Christian or conservative radio station. Ask them to broadcast it as a Public Service Announcement (PSA)! MP3 file or WAV file
Click here for Frequently Asked Questions about the Day of Silence.
In the past week alone, over 200 schools have announced they are dropping plans to participate. Please, get involved for the sake or your children, and all children, today!
Take Action! What should parents do? Check with your local school principal to see if your child's school will be participating in DOS. If the school is participating, notify other parents about DOS and ask them to join in keeping their children out of school on that day. Here is a partial list of schools which are expected to participate in DOS: If your school is listed, call your local school and ascertain whether they officially or passively allow students to observe "Day of Silence." If your school is listed, please double-check with your local school to see if the school is actually sponsoring DOS. Sometimes the "participation" turns out to be a handful of kids who are saying they have a homosexual club and are observing this protest day, but without school endorsement. We sincerely hope your school, if listed, is not actually an official sponsor. If it is not, we will take them off the list, if a school official asks us to do so. Please e-mail your correction to webmaster@missionamerica.com.
Some tips: - Be sure of the date that DOS is planned for your school. (The national date is April 25, but some schools observe DOS on a different date.)
- Inform the school of your intention to keep your child home on that date and explain why. Click here for a sample letter.
- Explain to your children why you're taking a stand: Homosexual behavior is not an innate identity; it is a sinful, unnatural and destructive behavior. No school should advance a physically, emotionally, and spiritually destructive sexual lifestyle to students.
- Schools do not have to tolerate students remaining silent in class. Schools can adopt policies that require parental consent for students to attend any club, including those premised on sexual orientation or gender identity. Click here for more information from Attorney Mat Staver with Liberty Counsel who provides free information to parents, students, and schools regarding their rights associated with noncompliance on the Day of Silence.
An update from the folks at Grassfire Alliance. 2/29/2008
Breaking news has confirmed what Grassfire has been saying all along--the VIRTUAL BORDER FENCE HAS FAILED!
According to reports, Project 28 (twenty-eight miles of virtual border fence in Arizona), which the President has boasted is "the most technologically advanced border security initiative in American history" has failed.
New estimates suggest the project will not be completed until the end of the next president’s first term--in 2011!
This is just one more slap across the face of American citizens who are eager to see our borders secured!
The lack of commitment and concern; the colossal waste of taxpayer funds is nothing short of reprehensible--which is why Grassfire launched our national petition demanding Congress make good on their promise to build a double-layered fence.
++ Future of the Fence in Peril?
Grassfire has also learned that Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have called the Border Fence "absurd" and stated that the Bush Administration walked "off of the deep end" when they started securing the Border.
Ignorant of the situation, Clinton falsely accused the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of not listening to the locals and cutting off part of the University of Texas--Brownsville Campus.
Taking these accusations to task, Grassfire spoke with DHS officials and uncovered the truth concerning the University of Texas-Brownsville situation.
++ The Truth Revealed...
In the plan adopted by the DHS, the fence runs along the Rio Grande River. At no point does it separate any buildings from campus. However, the plan does enclose a golf course--similarly to what one would find at private country clubs.
Truth be told, the DHS is working with locals and accommodating their needs--something both Presidential hopefuls failed to acknowledge.
Why? Because both have an "open-border" agenda.
Both of these important stories underscore the importance of grassroots citizens remaining vigilant in efforts to secure the border. Grassfire is doing our part, and we are relying on you to do yours...
++Action #1--Alert your friends!

This may be the last straw...
The New York Times' Executive Editor Bill Keller is now trying to blame conservatives for the blowup over the Times' outrageously shoddy journalism!
Keller adamantly refuses to accept any responsibility for the Times' tabloid attack on John McCain.
And now he's turning his guns on you and me -- blaming us for the controversy surrounding the Times' article.
My boss Brent Bozell is outraged. Just yesterday Brent labeled The New York Times a "national disgrace" and called for the immediate dismissal of Bill Keller. Brent says that Keller's dismissal is the "only hope of beginning to rebuild the Times' reputation."
+ + Tell The New York Times: Editor Keller Must Go!
That is why, today, the MRC is launching a nationwide grassroots campaign calling for the resignation or immediate dismissal of New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller.
We want to flood Keller's office and nine other key Times officials with thousands of faxes from citizens like you, demanding that Keller be dismissed as a first step to restoring that paper's credibility.
Go here to schedule your faxes to the key leaders at the New York Times right now:
http://www.mrcaction.org/1523/offer.asp?rid=14576094
(As always, if you prefer to send your own faxes, we have provided all the information you need, including a sample fax message, on the page. Just click above.)
+ + New York Times must be held accountable
As I shared with you a few days ago, Brent is determined that the Times must not get away with such shoddy and dangerous journalism -- and we certainly cannot let them blame conservatives!
That is why we decided to launch this fax campaign.
In fact, when you schedule your faxes (in appreciation of a tax-deductible gift to the MRC), you can also choose to send a Certified Letter directly to the Times’ publisher.
I would very much like to see the Times' Publisher get hundreds of Certified Letters from citizens like you!
Please go here to take action:
http://www.mrcaction.org/1523/offer.asp?rid=14576094
This is such a clear example of how the liberal media is trying to determine the outcome of the elections. It is shameful and despicable -- and now Bill Keller is trying to turn the tables and blame you and me!
Brent is determined not to let this happen.
Please stand with the MRC to expose the Times' bias by taking action -- either by sending your own faxes or using our convenient service.
Thank you for the vital part you play in MRC Action!

+ + + MEDIA RESEARCH CENTER + + MRC NEWS REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 15, 2008 + + From the Desk of: Douglas Mills 2/15/2008 You've got to chuckle when news correspondents puff up and pretend to be experts in a field they likely know little about. Enter CNN correspondent Ali Velshi, who morphed into the role of an economist when explaining how Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s appearance before the Senate Banking Committee might go. "There are going to be a lot of questions... They're going to be asked obviously about where we are in this recession." What recession, Ali? Economics 101 teaches the official definition of recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth. We haven't had that. Therefore, we are not in a recession. But Ali and his liberal peers ignore or dismiss these important items in favor of creating negative and fearful hyperbole. A CNBC anchor ratcheted up that fear by adding "Worries about losing your job... wild swings on Wall Street... It is impacting people .. Fear begets fear." Here's a responsible thought: stop peddling fear and focus on the truth. For the complete businessandmedia.org report: http://www.mrcaction.org/r.asp?u=2618&rid=14576094While discussing the Potomac Primaries on Wednesday's Early Show on CBS, Harry Smith, Republican CBS Political analyst Nicolle Wallace said of John McCain’s conservative critics, "The more that we see kind of the crazies like Ann Coulter out attacking John McCain, the better Republicans feel about their chances in the general election." Before closing, she felt compelled to lump Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and Laura Ingraham into the mix. So after pronouncing conservatives dead on arrival last week, the media are now labeling conservatives as "crazies" - and are claiming that this will increase McCain’s chances come November? As Mark Twain said, "News of my death is greatly exaggerated." Media Research Center Douglas Mills, Executive Vice President ++Please forward this important message to your friends and urge them to help us stop the media attacks on conservatives. In the last week, the liberal media have launched an all-out effort to turn "conservative" into a dirty word. First, Tim Russert said if McCain is seen as "caving in" to conservatives his campaign will be "derailed." Then Matt Lauer said plainly that "conservatives have lost" and then compared conservatives to "a 3-year-old" who wants to take the ball and go home. And over the weekend, The Washington Post's John Broder berated conservatives and said the movement represents a "limited constituency." Darell, the MRC has been watching the media for 25 years now. These are not happenstance comments by the liberal media. This is an intentional effort to bury conservatism and turn "conservative" into a political dirty word! + + Update on your petition The media are fighting a war of ideas against conservative values. They smell blood in the water and are using all their resources to tar and feather any and all conservatives. This is why the MRC launched our petition demanding balanced media reporting during this year’s elections. Thank you for signing that petition. We have already successfully delivered the first batch to ABC, CBS, NBC and FNC morning shows. But I want to do more. Please forward this message to your friends and ask them to sign our petition against the media’s anti-conservative attacks: http://www.mrcaction.org/506/petition.asp?PID=15303813I expect the media's attacks on conservatives will only worsen if we do not draw a line in the sand. For example, recently Bill Maher mockingly said he wished Rush Limbaugh had died instead of Heath Ledger! Here's the actual quote: "Why couldn't have [Rush Limbaugh] croaked from [drug overdose] instead of Health Ledger?" If a conservative pundit had said such a think about a liberal leader like Jesse Jackson, he would have been immediately banned from the airwaves! We need 25,000 signatures to reach our next threshold for delivery. Thank you for taking action today. Douglas Mills Executive Vice President Media Research Center P.S. The MRC research team has all the background information on the quotes I have referenced. Go here for all the resources: http://www.mrcaction.org
+ + + MEDIA RESEARCH CENTER + + MRC NEWS REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 6, 2008 + + From the Desk of: Douglas Mills, Executive Vice President 2/6/2008 The liberal media are falling all over themselves speculating a potential Democratic "Dream Ticket" of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. ABC News was so taken by the idea, they actually flew up a graphic while anchor Charles Gibson insisted that the "Dream Ticket" idea has been "on many people's minds." Really Charles, or is it just on the minds of liberal news anchors desperate to create a buzz? A closer look suggests the latter. "Good Morning America" co-anchor Diane Sawyer, seemed to come unhinged when discussing the idea with George Stephanopoulos. After he admitted it was something he was thinking of "for most of the year," Sawyer emphatically begged Stephanopoulos to bet that the "Dream Ticket" would happen. For the complete mrc.org CyberAlert report: http://www.mrcaction.org/r.asp?u=2574&rid=14576094Is the Reagan ideology finished? Is the conservative movement gone? Are Republicans finally embracing Democratic policy prescriptions while Rush Limbaugh and other conservative mouthpieces wither away? In Brent's latest column "McCain vs. Limbaugh", he spotlights the liberal media's rush to pronounce Rush dead on January 19. That's the day when John McCain won the South Carolina primary--setting liberal corks-a-popping as they "celebrated" the changing times, and how conservative voters had finally turned on Rush--signaling his demise... Well, according to Brent, the liberal celebration might be a bit premature. AFA will not bow down to a threat from a liberal left-wing group The Rev. Barry Lynn, the executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, has asked that the Internal Revenue Service investigate the American Family Association. Lynn says that AFA has violated IRS rules by distributing a voters guide.
For years, Rev. Lynn and his Americans United, along with groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union and People for the American Way, have used threats to silence Christians in an attempt to take away their First Amendment rights. The tragedy is that he has been successful in silencing thousands of ministers.
Let me make one thing clear to Rev. Lynn and his cohorts. We have no intention of bowing down to his threatening demands. Rev. Lynn is mistaken if he thinks his threat will scare this minister from exercising his First Amendment rights.
Lynn has also included a threat to churches. Trying to scare ministers from exercising their rights, Lynn said: "Any church that distributes these biased guides is risking its tax exemption and casting aside its integrity."
The AFA Voters Guide was developed by three constitutional lawyers and reviewed by three more constitutional lawyers following Rev. Lynn's threat. All agreed that the voters guide is perfectly legal.
The Alliance Defense Fund has offered to represent (free of charge) churches or organizations which distribute the voter's guide and encounter opposition from either Lynn or the IRS.
Take Action! - Show Rev. Lynn that his threats don't scare you by printing and distributing the AFA Voter's Guide. Click here.
- Forward this to family and friends.
